Community Choir

Lively Community Choir held in the Lecture Theatre, John Turner building at Shiplake College on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.00pm in term-time.

With 50-60 members aged from 20 to 70, we sing a mainly pop repertoire, in four-part harmony. We do sing from music scores, but music-reading ability isn't necessary. There is no audition, all are welcome. We have great fun and are a very friendly and lively choir, with interval refreshments consisting of wine and nibbles! The choir costs just £50 per year.

Some comments from our members:

“I was made to feel welcome and even though I was quite nervous, Louise makes it such fun. Even though you may not have the best voice, you still enjoy it. You get a great feeling of achievement after learning a new piece when it all comes together.”

“The choir is certainly very valuable to me as I know it is to the friends who joined when I did. It is what it says, a community choir which is open to everyone, all ages and all abilities. It is big asset to our local area.”

“Our very talented and hilarious leader Louise makes every session good fun and is very inclusive of all levels of ability. I always leave feeling I have enjoyed some great singing and had a good laugh.”

Shiplake Community Choir Concert

On Saturday 16th June, join Shiplake Community Choir and the amazing, internationally-renowned Ferio Saxophone Quartet for a fabulous evening of music. "Wonderful Tonight" is a light-hearted programme of music featuring Eric Clapton's hit of the same name plus other favourites such as medleys of Bond themes and Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes. Shiplake Community Choir is an initiative of Shiplake College and is conducted by founder-director Louise Rapple Moore,

Ferio Saxophone Quartet (feriosax.co.uk) are acclaimed as one of the leading British saxophone quartets and have performed all over the UK and worldwide. They are wonderful to listen to and watch and we are delighted to have persauded them to come and perform with us here in Henley. They will be playing pieces from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and music by Piazzolla and JS Bach.

Profits from the evening's entertainment will go to local charity The Chiltern Centre, which supports and offers respite care for disabled children and young adults. See www.chilterncentre.org.uk for more details.

Christ Church Henley is a great venue with excellent facilities, right in the middle of Henley and just a few minutes walk from the station. There is some limited parking at the Church itself and the town car parks are nearby.

Do come and join us at Christ Church URC, Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames RG9 1AG. The concert starts at 7pm and will included an interval with wine and soft drinks. Tickets are £12 (£5 for under-18s) and are available from Louise on lrapple@shiplake.org.uk or 0118 940 5226 or from any member of the choir.
